  • Senior UX Strategist

    At BarkleyREI, we understand that effective and memorable digital experiences occur at the intersection of User Experience, Design and Content Strategy. If you are passionate about contributing to the creation of purposeful digital experiences, then you’re in the right place. We are searching for a Senior UX Strategist to join our growing Experience Design Team in Pittsburgh, PA.
    The ideal candidate is a multidisciplinary blend of researcher, analyst, and strategist who will serve as an advocate for the user throughout the lifecycle of every project. Leveraging Human Centered Design, and through a variety of methods, they will conduct user research, gather key insights, distill key data, and translate findings into strategic recommendations that purposefully balance user and business needs

    Responsibilities:

    • As part of the Experience Design Team you will work alongside UX Designers, Content Strategists, Writers & Visual Designers in addition to Client Service, Development, Analytic, and Digital Marketing teams to create purposeful digital experiences for our clients.
    • Work both autonomously, and as part of a team, while demonstrating an aptitude for time management, organization, and effective communication.
    • Collaborate closely with client stakeholders and teammates to identify the proper balance of user and client business needs within the scope constraints of every project.
    • Utilize human centered design methodologies to help clients solve problems, uncover key insights, and identify potential solutions through innovation and ideation.
    • Define, structure, and lead the facilitation of Human Centered Design workshops for users, client stakeholders and internal teams.
    • Consistently act on behalf of the user advocating for their specific needs.
    • Conduct user research, including but not limited to informational interviews, contextual inquiry, focus groups, workshops and surveys.
    • Perform various audits and inventories, usability assessments, and heuristic evaluations, synthesizing findings into client-facing artifacts with actionable and strategic recommendations.
    • Lead the translation of user research, and client discovery findings into formal or informal artifacts including but not limited to user personas, sitemaps, user flows, journey maps, navigational structures, low to mid fidelity prototypes, annotated wireframes, functional requirement documentation, content outlines/matrices, and taxonomies/labeling.
    • Provide data informed, and user-centric strategic recommendations across every project.
    • Plan and conduct usability testing and site-tree testing as necessary and synthesize findings into client facing artifacts.
    • Lead the creation of documentation, reference materials, and necessary artifacts to guide internal development teams.
    • Collaborate with Content Strategists to ensure appropriate content is presented to the end user in a coherent, organized, and usable fashion.
    • Collaborate with front-end and back-end developers to ensure desired feasibility.
    • Clearly and effectively present recommendations to clients both in-person and remote as necessary.
    • Lead the development of consistent internal processes and the standardization of all client facing deliverables and artifacts.
    • Assist with new business as necessary, including the development of pitch materials & attending pitches to advocate the importance of User Experience.
    • Provide direction and oversee the work of external resources as necessary.
    • Mentor junior members of the Experience Design Team as necessary.
    • Maintain a current understanding of the latest industry, & UX trends.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience, Cognitive Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Library Sciences, Web Design, Communication, or other equivalent.
    • Minimum of 8 years experience in a UX related role.
    • Excellent writing, interpersonal, communication, & presentation skills.
    • Impeccable attention to detail and strong problem-solving, conceptual and brainstorming skills.
    • Ability to think outside the box and provide innovative alternatives to project, product, service or process related solutions as necessary.
    • Comfortable speaking and presenting to various audiences including C-Level executives.
    • Strong working knowledge of Human Centered Design, user-centered design principles and usability assessment methods.
    • Solid understanding of Responsive Web Design, various frameworks, and the technical constraints associated with each.
    • Experience supporting the creation of accessible products that uphold WCAG standards.
    • Ability to pivot quickly from high level strategic thinking to tactical execution.
    • Up to date knowledge of web design, UX design and content trends, techniques and tools.
    • Extremely outgoing, personable, and positive attitude toward colleagues and clients.
    • Driven to learn new skills, share knowledge and mentor other teammates.
    • Proficient in Sketch, Invision, Adobe Suite, Optimal Workshop, Usertesting.com, and other relevant UX tools.
    • Strong portfolio of work that demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of User Experience and how you have successfully implemented strategic recommendations for clients. (Approach, Methodology & Processes)

    Bonus Points:

    • Masters Degree in Communications, Cognitive Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, or equivalent.
    • Previous management, team lead or mentorship experience.
    • Solid understanding of content management systems, and the associated technical constraints.
    • Strong working knowledge of Atomic Design methodology and supporting the creation of comprehensive Digital Design Systems.
    • Solid understanding of analytics, keywords, metadata, SEO and accessibility standards.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced agency setting.

  • Senior Brand Specialist

    We are looking for a talented Senior Brand Specialist to join our digital agency team. You will play a vital role in building client relationships, understanding their needs, planning and scoping best-in-class digital solutions, and managing inter-disciplinary teams through the delivery of these solutions.
    You should be a positive problem solver that possess exemplary organizational skills, a genuine desire to lead and excellent communication skills in small and large group settings.

    Responsibilities:

    Digital/Strategic Consulting

    • Develop and evolve strategic recommendations to exceed client’s objectives through web sites and other digital marketing efforts including paid online marketing campaigns, SEO, email marketing, mobile, and online content.
    • Maintain an in-depth understanding of clients’ business needs, communications strategies and digital ecosystem through research, on-site discovery sessions and, most importantly, by staying in contact with each client on a regular basis.
    • Ensure strategic recommendations are carried out through all subsequent work.
    • Lead the development of proposals and statements of work for current clients.
    • Help to support and lead large-scale discovery efforts and the development of digital strategy presentations and documents.
    • Create insightful, well-organized project briefs that effectively translate client needs, project scope and the strategic goals to internal Barkley team members.
    • Support Director on new business as needed.

    Client Management

    • Develop trusted, consultative relationships with clients.
    • Collaborate with client and internal team to define scopes and implement new project needs.
    • Meet with client to review account status and direction on a regular basis.
    • Provide clients with weekly status reports and lead status calls.
    • Work with a Project Manager to manage day-to-day client, project, and team needs and ensure projects are delivered in a timely manner.
    • Keep clients abreast of industry trends and best practices.
    • Ensure delivery of superior quality, effective work and escalate issues/concerns as needed.

    Account Profitability & Growth

    • Deliver projects on budget through project estimating, tracking, reporting and invoice tracking
    • Develop statements of work and change orders
    • Manage client communications regarding budget throughout projects and present change orders when necessary
    • Identify opportunities for growth and additional services to meet client business goals

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience required.
    • 7 or more years of experience in an agency client service role with at least 50% digital focus.
    • Higher Education, Travel/Tourism, and/or non-profit experience a plus.
    • A proven track record for delivering large, complex digital projects on-time and within budget.
    • A passion for digital with a strong understanding of emerging technologies and how businesses and organizations use digital to achieve their goals and objectives.

  • Content Strategist

We are searching for a Content Strategist to join our growing Experience Design Team in Pittsburgh, PA.
    The ideal candidate understands the importance of the content lifecycle in the digital space, how it supports user need, and how it compliments and communicates brand purpose. The ideal candidate is a perfect blend of strategist and storyteller, and will be responsible for developing comprehensive digital content strategies for a variety of clients.

    Responsibilities:

    • As part of the Experience Design Team you will work alongside Information Architects, UX Designers, Content Strategists, Writers & Visual Designers in addition to Client Service, Development and Digital Marketing teams to ensure the successful integration of content strategy throughout every facet of every project.
    • Collaborate closely with clients at the forefront of every project to identify content-related criteria, including gaps, needs, authors, requirements, sources, limitations, creation feasibility, risks and success factors for all projects.
    • Perform various content audits, gap analysis, ROT analysis, competitive analysis, content inventories & assessments to inform strategic recommendations for the planning, creation, distribution and governance of content.
    • Create various formal or informal artifacts including but not limited to spreadsheets, text documents, content outlines/matrices, taxonomies/labeling, and content mapping documentation.
    • Create taxonomies and metadata frameworks for labeling, grouping and effectively tagging content.
    • Create comprehensive digital content strategies to support web and digital marketing projects that balance user need with the client’s business objectives.
    • Clearly and effectively present strategic recommendations to internal teams and clients both in-person and remote as necessary.
    • Effectively rationalize content choices based on clear logic and data.
    • Support the writing of various styles of copy that appeal to different target audiences across multiple industries by tailoring the style, voice and tone appropriately to support a client’s brand and business objectives through creative copywriting, content writing, technical writing, and UX writing. (Persuade, Influence, Inform, Entertain, Etc.)
    • Collaborate closely with clients to effectively acquire, prepare, migrate and format all content into various Content Management Systems.
    • Responsible for the set-up of complex site structures and the accompanying page templates within various Content Management Systems.
    • Successfully inform, educate and guide content authors long after the completion of the project by developing Content Outlines, Style Guides, Page Templates, Editorial Calendars, Training Materials, Governance Plans and Workflows.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Marketing, Communications, English, Writing, or other equivalent.
    • Background in writing with a minimum of 4 years experience in either content writing, creative copywriting or content strategy for web.
    • Versatile writing abilities to include creative copywriting, SEO content writing, technical writing and UX writing.
