Front-End Web Developer/Interface Programmer

The new agency specializes in travel and tourism, higher education and non-profit categories and with the added resources of Barkley will continue to expand its efforts in these specialist categories. Position Summary

The Front-End Web Developer/Interface programmer is responsible for being an expert in writing standards based, semantic XHTML and CSS with a strong focus on web standards and accessibility.

Requirements:

  • Expert ability in writing standards based, semanticly correct XHTML and CSS (HTML5 is a plus).
  • Strong focus on web standards & accessibility/strong understanding of modern web practices to create an efficient user-experience.
  • JavaScript/DOM scripting to build interactive but accessible interfaces, experience with the jQuery framework a huge plus.
  • Transformation of XML to HTML via XSLT
  • Moderate knowledge of Photoshop
  • Basic understanding of Content Management Systems
  • Experience in coding emails a plus
  • A good understanding of cross-browser issues and debugging.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience/familiarity with SVN/CVS for version control
  • Experience/familiarity in mobile web development

Candidate responsibilities will include the following:

  • Creation of standards compliant, semantic, web interfaces via HTML, CSS, JavaScript (using jQuery) from Photoshop documents.
  • Template integration into various CMS systems. Strong emphasis and understanding of XML/XPATH/XSLT needed.
  • Maintenance of existing client portfolio within their respective frameworks.
  • Coding of mass-mailing for various clients. Experience with Silverpop a plus.
  • Working with back-end developers, user-experience department, as well as the design team to come up with the best solutions for a client.
  • Ability to give estimates on work required.
  • Very strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to improvise, troubleshoot, and learn new skills on the job is extremely important.
